Staring with cafe and gig sketching back in 2009/2010. The live atmosphere of painting in these situations gave a vitality to the art that really appealed to Merlin, plus the challenge of seeing what it was possible to paint before the next act or the person finished their coffee. Merlin was soon recognised for his speed and dynamism in capturing live moments and invited first to paint a party, then a wedding and so on. 15 years later and painting events from aerospace open days to quirky little festivals, Merlin has kept on refining and evolving his style and the scope of what he can paint in a day!
